When I was young I was very aware of “the unseen world”. In fact I connected more with this world than I did with the “real” world. Growing up – I just “knew” things and I assumed that it was the same for everyone else. It felt as if I had already been told certain facts and so I didn’t question the validity of the information that I was receiving. I knew what people were thinking even though their faces told a different story. I often found it challenging to reconcile what I was feeling with what I was being told by someone. I could feel and sense everyone’s emotions and still do, however I have learned how to “manage” this. In my late teens I learned about energy and realised that what I was “reading” was the subtle energetic patterns of people which presented to me as colours and “feelings”. Over time I found my own language to describe this and ways to express what I could “see”. It became clear very early on for me that, facilitating people as they experienced shifts in perception and transformation whilst stepping into their own power, would be a great part of my life. I grew to understand that our personal power lies in our ability to focus inwards and in strengthening our connection with our innate emotional and intuitive intelligence. Between 1984 and 1996 I gave birth to five children. My greatest joy has come from the gift of being a mother and from witnessing their lives unfold into the beautiful, aware, empathetic and conscious adults they have become. I trained in a variety of healing/complimentary therapies and I also trained as a visual artist. I am continuing my training in classical drawing at The Drawing Studio, Dublin, run by Sam Horler, who is an exceptionally good teacher. For the past 25 years I have worked as a therapist, combining this work with a professional career, as a painter, in the visual arts. Colour is for me, the matrix within which my perception of reality is formed. I perceive people and environments in terms of colour. I paint what I “see”; linking what is visionary with the physical world. I also sculpt in clay and trained with a Master Ceramic Artist in 2009. I am commissioned to paint what has become known as Portrait of Spirit works of art for individuals and companies. My work is in a number of galleries in Ireland and in the UK, including the Mill Cove Gallery, Castletown Beare, Co. West Cork., Gormleys fine Art Dublin, Kennys Art Gallery, Galway and in The Barbara Stanley Gallery in the UK. I have also exhibited my work in many solo and group exhibitions. My next solo exhibition in at Farmleigh Art Gallery. The opening is on the 2nd July 2016 and this runs for five weeks. I had heard of mindfulness before and had attended courses but none to compare with this one. I discovered a lot about myself; my hidden talents; my strengths together with the realisation that I am completely in control of my own feelings and reactions. I learned that all it takes is just a moment, literally just a breath, to change my perceived reality of any given situation and to bring about my own sense of peace – quite an empowering experience! I know that others in the group had similar experiences. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. I can also commend Karen for the way she ran the workshop. At all times I felt heard, supported and encouraged to bring out the best in me. Mary Predergast, MBA, MSc, Director of Nursing, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. …I am a nurse for over 30 years and have been involved in training many teams over my years in education, Nursing, Leadership and Gerontology. As Director of Nursing I was most especially taken with the sensitive and gentle flow of the workshop. I could not recommend Karen enough as a teacher and director of this programme….Karen uses many tools and techniques to bring out the best in everyone and many participants were surprised and excited at what emerged as a result of inspirational thinking….This is a mindful, resourceful, yet intuitive unique style of workshop, blending traditional with new. This workshop may be a means to building resilience and problem solving positivity to all who attend. Eadaoin Moore, Teacher Gaelscoil , Co. Wicklow. Karen runs programmes and classes for children whom I teach. As a facilitator, she manages to hold the interest and attention of all 28 children per class and they are more than willing and eager to participate and engage fully with all of the methodologies implemented. In the circle time, each child is encouraged to express themselves whilst the other children pay full attention. There is a perfect balance between structure and freedom of expression in this course. There is a considerable increase in the feelings of peace, calmness and wellbeing in the classroom after one of these sessions leading to more empathy and respect amongst the students. I can highly endorse and recommend Karen as a leader and facilitator of this mindfulness based programme. Copyright. Karen Ebbs 2015.
