Living to Create: I Wish to Be a Voice of Unexpected Beauty
By Majjsan Maria Kindgren
Let’s take it from the beginning: I am a creative being.
I create and I always have.
For me creating jewelry is speaking another language: Clay, bones, silver, wood, insect parts and animal parts – are all words from a different language for me.
Earlier I’ve written poetry and short stories, but with the jewelry making I am learning another alphabet. A language without letters. It is a more direct and heart centered language. For me, it’s about expressing inner thoughts, feelings and ideas in another way than humans normally do when we communicate.
Therefore my work is very personal. My naked heart is exposed in my creations. Even my soul.
It itches in my bones when I don´t create, or find myself in an uncreative environment. Everything in my life stops, the spark of what is me and what is true in my life becomes silent when I can’t let my soul flow through my brain and out through my body.
I’ve had so called normal, full time jobs and found myself sneaking away to the bathroom/toilet just to be alone and write poetry or sketch ideas to new projects. I used to hide away to meditate at my lunch breaks just to get 15 minutes of being me. This hideaway life was deeply draining my soul. I couldn’t manage this over time.
So in spite of all my fears of not being good enough, and with all my precious hope of a bright and creative future I gathered courage and started showing my creations to the world.
Now I run a small company based on my creations. It’s still new and growing, but it is my life and it is my truth.
What is the meaning of everything? What is the essence of life in the universe? What is truth? As so many people I struggle with these questions, and in a wide perspective my creative work is small distillates of me trying to find answers to these questions.
I try to experience beauty in everything.
I try to hear the silent whisper of the pill bug, see the never ending beauty of dandelions,  inhale the sacredness of not always popular plants, animals and phenomena.
I wish to be a voice of unexpected beauty.
Uneven surfaces, irregular shapes and old bones are things that really interest me. Beauty can be so much more than classical perfection made in large factories. That kind of neat expression is not necessarily interesting. Beauty for me is to keep close to the struggles in life, and it sure can have a lot of different faces. Keep going and continue to be brave even  though other people might see me as different.
Small paths.
New paths.
I am curious about them all, and especially if they are dark and misty. Curiosity is a big force in my creative work. I always want to explore more, and deeper. And when I do, I usually find something new and even more thrilling.
A lot of my creative work is not mine. What do I mean by that?
For me, it’s about finding a different type of contact. At first, a contact with my self, my own inner core, but then something far beyond that.
It’s once again about listening, to listen in all directions. And then I just let it happen. I let go of my own voice. I let go of all the noise of the everyday life. With this the other worlds are allowed to speak their language through my hands. That is my way of creating, and my way of being alive.
I connect to other worlds. I hear their voices in meditation, in spiritual journeys or as bright sparks during long hours in my studio. Sometimes the tribes speaking come from outer space, but mostly there is an elvish like tribe that sings into my hands. They have a deep wisdom about life, the nature and this universe. And I am glad to be a part of their voice.
The messages that come through are often about caring for the planet, nature, each other and one’s self. The messages also talk about the possibility to open up to greater courage. This is a part of finding my own way, and sometimes it’s dark: with bones, death, old attic dust and mummies. This is also an important path. And a path of beauty.
